Make the most of your 30-minute intro conversation

Thanks for booking a call with CareerGenie! We’re excited to get to know you better and help match you with roles at fast-growing, remote-friendly startups.

To make the most of our time together, here’s how you can prepare in just a few minutes:

✅ Think About Your Past Wins

We’re not looking for rehearsed speeches — we just want to understand you. So take a moment to reflect on:

  • Projects you’ve worked on that made you proud

  • Challenges you overcame with creativity or grit

  • Times when you learned something important — especially from failure

  • What kind of work energizes you (and what drains you)

These stories will help us understand where you shine and what environments bring out your best.

💡 Use the STAR Method to Tell Your Stories

If you’re unsure how to structure your answers, the STAR Method is a great way to keep things clear and concise:

  • Situation: What was the context?

  • Task: What were you responsible for?

  • Action: What did you do?

  • Result: What was the outcome?

No need to memorize anything — just think through 2–3 examples where you had real impact.

🌍 Be Ready to Chat About Fit

We also care about how you thrive in a startup or remote/global environment. We might ask about:

  • A time you worked with limited structure or resources

  • How you’ve collaborated with global or cross-cultural teams

  • What you’ve learned from working in fast-paced or early-stage companies

Don’t worry if you’ve never worked at a startup — we’re looking for mindset, not just logos on a resume.

✨ Bonus: Bring Your Questions

We love candidates who are curious and thoughtful. Feel free to ask about:

  • The mission and stage of the company you’re being matched with

  • The founding team’s background or leadership style

  • How the team works day-to-day (tools, time zones, async vs sync)

  • Growth opportunities or how success is measured in the role
